Work From Home, Part 6 – Jabber and Softphone Usage the EASY Way

April 2nd, 2020

You know, sometimes I can be silly.

There’s a great blog from last week on Jabber and Softphone usage, but because I was so busy and focused on making those blogs all be similar to one another” to make it easier to follow along with each, I completely failed to just tell you the *easy* ways of doing reports on Jabber and softphone calls.

Enough excuses…

Rollup reports on remote phone usage

This is easy. Click Browse then select Devices.

One of the drop-downs is called device types. Click that, click the Uncheck all link, then re-check whatever device types you need. For instance below I have selected all Device Types that are even vaguely related to remote working – all the ipPhones, jabber clients and softphones.

To change the fields showing, just use the fields drop-down on the right:

(Some of those fields are populated by our AXL integration app, so if many are blank that’s why).

That’s all there is to it!

Additional options

Of course, just because that’s all there is to it, doesn’t mean there’s not a load of extra options, too.

Filter by specific devices or device names

You can filter by specific devices by using the device field.

Wildcards are supported, so if your Jabber Desktop clients are named for people, you could search for something like CSFRICH* to get all Jabber Desktops for folks whose name is Rich <mumblesomething>”. Or *richm* to get all devices where the string richm” occurs in it. Do note they are case insensitive, so CSFBLAH, csfblah andCSFBlah will all find the same devices.

Filter by sites

If you have set up sites, you can use those too with the sites drop-down.

Like most of the drop-down selectors, this is a multi-select so you can pick as few or many as you want off that list.

Filter by number

Typing in a number will show you all the devices that have used that number. All sorts of wildcards are supported in the number field.

To see more detail

If you want to see more detail on the calls show in any particular row, just click on it to go to the Device Detail page.

From there if you need *even more information*, click the link at the very bottom – » investigate these calls. That will take you back to Browse Calls with those calls displayed, and from there … well, just keep clicking!

Great software ultimately has to empower you to achieve more in less time. This extends to the company behind it -- we have to remember to always use your time as efficiently as we can.

And here I am happy to say that we shortened our Product Overview video dramatically. The new one is only 4 minutes long, vs 11 for the old one. You can see it here:

NOTE: the old one showed more of the product and was definitely more complete. In fact this was deliberate because we used it both for new users and also to be a deeper onboarding video for everyday users. However it was a bit too long for anyone who just wanted the short version and didnt want to spend 11 minutes of their day.
